Friday | Saturday | Costume Contest | Sat/Sun | Hetalia
So to recap- after providing minor assistance in the green room, I join the line to get into the costume contest as it backs up to the outside door. Time to figure out a better plan. One Mentos later, I headed back into the green room.
Sarah: Why are you here? You should get a good seat for the
contest.
Adam: That's what I *am* doing.
Cosplay Contest
The Omega Plan
The nice thing about being friends with No Brand staff is that when I randomly show up in main programming while they're still setting up the room and say "I'm not staffing or volunteering, but I'm here to help," they don't try to have me removed from the premises. Granted, they were fairly on their game and had most of everything set up already, not that it stopped me from staking out a good seat in the second row.
After picking up some litter to create the impression that I was being useful, they were about ready to open the doors, but needed one more person to help people find seats without resorting to stampeding. Thus, I ended up as an usher on the far end of the room. They had a count down to make sure both doors opened at the same time. It was kind of neat experiencing the moment from the inside. Yes, I hosted Geek.Kon's masquerade last year, but as host, I was contractually obligated to be a conceited diva completely ignorant of the tireless work performed by the lesser help. Shame too, because those guys work their butts off.
But yeah, despite showing up randomly at the last second with no formal training and completely selfish motives, I totally ushed the hell out of my aisle. Kept track of empty seats up front and made sure they were filled, prevented any riots and even got compliments on my Estonia cosplay... even though I had taken the belt and jacket off already.

Time for the Gardening Ninja and Duct Tape Boy to start the show. Actually, Future Girl did the MC work (normally Gardening Ninja's job), Gardening Ninja did comic relief (normally Duct Tape Boy's job), and Duct Tape Boy escorted entries to the stage (normally a Stage Ninja's job). It would have been confusing had anyone in the audience put too much thought into it.
Since I had such primo seats, I took more pictures than usual. Don't expect witty comments for all of them.

Link plays trumpet. I like how fancy Hyrule makes their music holders.

Captain K'Nex.

Hungary delivers her anti-Prussia rant.

Scott did not cosplay Geekbot (which wouldn't be unheard of, as Chief's son cosplayed Gardening Ninja at Geek.Kon '08). Rather, he went with Elmer Fudd in "What's Opera, Doc." This included singing.

...to his beloved Gardening Brunnhilde.

Lord of the ring...

Zack as a Minion...

In one of the most amusing moments in a No Brand costume contest, Cheesus cosplays Lynn... a character from Trae's webcomic. That was even more effective at stunning Trae than Scott's singing.

Dorothy from Big O... don't get that one too often. Nice!

The best part about Teddie...

He's retractable! And chock full of spoiler since we just bought Persona 4 a month ago.

Trae had to borrow an Is My Roommate Dead? stick to see if Daxter was still alive.

Every year I forget to say hi to Taru, and every year she shows up with an amazing cosplay.

The Host Club group wins on sheer quantity.

Although the Alice in Wonderland group doesn't do bad either.

To cap things off, Geek.Kon/No Brand judge Rae in her Edna Mode.
